The Blitz
The Blitz was an air campaign by the Luftwaffe during the summer of 1940. The strategy was to terrorize Britons into surrender by bombing London and other population centers. During the Blitz, the British were able to rebuild their airfields and improve their air defenses, leading to unsustainable German losses. New British fighters such as Spitfires and Hurricanes were deployed to great effect. Radar and early warning systems were improved. Hitler was forced to call off the Blitz, and Britons resolved to continue the war to the end.
