Titan

From Encyc

The Titans, from Greek mythology, was the name of the first Gods, who were, essentially, giant humans (when compared with giants, they are usually described as even bigger yet). The Titans were enormously large and walked the earth, with no more powers than ordinary humans, except that they were larger.

Per Greek mythology, a new kind of God was then created, who had magical powers. Whilst the new Gods were the same size as humans, with their magic they could change shape and even disappear entirely. There was a war, and the new Gods won, turning the Titans to stone.

In an episode of Xena, which is loosely based on Greek mythology, they freed some of the Titans, who then tried to declare war on the new Gods.

Whilst Titans are not usually used in a fantasy setting, where they are, they are described as larger versions of giants (or, in some cases, as alternatives to giants).

In the game "Heroes of Might and Magic" (III and beyond), a Titan was an upgrade of a Giant, with the addition of being able to throw lightning bolts.

In the game "Spellforce", a Titan was the special magical creature that each race had (Elf, Dark Elf, Human, Dwarf, Orc, Troll) that was like their elite troop.

In the game "Age of Mythology", the Titan was an example of a special mythological creature (in addition to Griffins and various other creatures) that could be used to assist your army.
