Trekboer

Trekboers were Dutch adventurers which explored the mainland of the southern portion of Africa. They moved eastwards, from Cape Town towards the region of the Orange River and the Transvaal.

In Dutch, "trekboer" can be loosely translated as "travelling farmer".

During the Anglo-Dutch war, some of them were imprisoned and treated very harshly by the British.
