Trojan configuration

In Astronomy the term trojan is used to refer any small astronomical object whose orbit is synchronized, through orbital resonance, with a larger object, in either the L4 or L5 Lagrange points.

The first object to be discovered to be in this configuration was an asteroid roughly sharing the orbit of Planet Jupiter, that had been named after a Trojan warrior, from Homer's Illiad. Subsequent asteroids in this configuration were named after Trojan warriors.

Other objects in the Solar system have been found in Trojan orbits. Seven asteroids have been found in a trojan configuration, sharing the orbit of Planet Mars. Thirty-five Kuiper Belt objects orbit in a trojan configuration with Planet Neptune.
