United States Senator

From Encyc

A United States Senator is a legislator serving in the United States Senate, the upper house of the United States Congress.[1]

The role and duties of a Senator are laid out in the United States Constitution.[1]

Senators are elected to a six year term.[1] Every state has two senators. Senate elections occur at the same time as the elections for Congressional Representative, the legislators elected for two year terms to the United States House of Representatives. Normally Senate elections are staggered, so voters chose at most one Senator per election. If a sitting Senator dies, or is otherwise unable to serve his entire term, the state's Governor is authorized to appoint a replacement.
