Vanuatu

Vanuatu is an island country in Oceania, over 1000 miles east of Australia. The capital city is Port Vila.

In the 1880s parts of Vanuatu were claimed by the UK and France. In 1906 it was agreed that they would both rule the islands together, as the New Hebrides. In 1980 Vanuatu gained independence.

Vanuatu is divided into 6 provinces:

• Penama Province
• Sanma Province
• Shefa Province
• Tafea Province
• Torba Province
