Xin Ming Xhu VIII

From Encyc

The Xin Ming Xhu VIII is a catamaran ferry that began operating in Hong Kong in March 2024.[1]

The ferry was built by the AFAI Southern Shipyard in Guangzhou, China, to a design from Australian firm Incat Crowther.[1] She is operated by Sun Ferry, and will be joined by five sister ships of the same design.

She is designed to carry 500 passengers.[1] Solar panels on her roof supply electrical power. Her pair of diesel engines, each producing 1440 kilowatts, combined with her catamaran hull, make her a high-speed vessel.[2] She is 44.9 meters long and 11 meters wide, and her draft is 1.37 meters.[3]

Operational career[edit]

The ferry began its service on the Mui Wo and Cheung Chau commuter routes, which depart from Hong Kong's Central Ferry Pier.[4]
