Zambia, officially the Republic of Zambia, is a landlocked country in east Africa. It borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Tanzania to the north, Botswana to the south, Angola to the west, Malawi and Mozambique to the northeast, Namibia to the southwest, and Zimbabwe to the southeast. The capital of the country is Lusaka.[1]

On 24 October 1964, the country gained independence from the United Kingdom.[1] Before then, it was known as Northern Rhodesia.
