Aberaeron

From Encyc

Aberaeron is the town at the mouth of the River Aeron in west Wales. Ceredigion County Council's main offices are in Aberaeron. In 2021 the town had a population of 1274.

Aberaeron is a rather recent town. In 1800 there was no significant settlement there. It was first planned in 1805 by the Rev. Alban Thomas Jones Gwynne. It was intended to develop as a port, but at first it was crafts that were most important in the village.

When the town was first created it was split across the parishes of Henfynyw and Llanddewi Aberarth, but in 1894 Aberayron Urban District Council was created. It remained spelt that way until 1966, when it was changed to the current spelling, Aberaeron.
