Aberllynfi

From Encyc
Three Cocks Hotel

Three Cocks / Aberllynfi is a village in Powys, Wales. Historically it was part of Brecknockshire.

The Welsh name Aberllynfi is the older one, dating to 1234. It refers to its location near where the River Llynfi joins the River Wye. Under this name it had been a parish, though without a parish church.[1] It was also a community in local government until 1986.[2] Today it is the main village in the community of Gwernyfed, which also includes Felindre and the southern part of Glasbury.

The English name Three Cocks is much newer, derived from the railway station Three Cocks Junction, which got its name from the Three Cocks Inn (a coaching inn). The inn dates to the 16th/17th century and still stands today. It was possibly the earliest building on the main road.
