Amiright
Amiright is a website that satirizes popular music in many ways. It was founded in 2000 by Charles Grosvenor, known by the fans as Chucky G.
Content[edit]
Amiright has sections dedicated to different types of music satire. One of the biggest sections is the parody archive. Parody artists can type in the name of the original song, type in the parody title, and paste in the parody lyrics. There is also a section for mondegreens, which are misheard lyrics. There are also sections such as, "Why certain lyrics are insulting," "Why certain music would make a bad ringtone," etc. Charles Grosvenor has compiled two Amiright-based books: Hold Me Closer Tony Danza and Hit Me With your Pet Shark. These books contain misheard lyrics, and a few of the other lyrics-related sections, but no parodies. Amiright also contains parody recordings (and other musical-comedy recordings) in the "Parody Performances" section. In fact, some people who record parodies for Amiright upload them to the Amiright group on Soundclick. If this is the case, then their comedy bits will most likely be played on the Amiright online radio station, hosted by Below Average Dave, an Amirighter famous for his cleverly-written parodies. He also makes parody videos on YouTube under the name Badavecom, but he is not as well-known there as he is for his Below Average Dave page on Amiright, or his badave.com pages. Amiright also has a sister-site called Amiwrong, for pop culture-themed quizzes and games. Also, in 2001, an Amiright sister site, Whatfreaks.com, was set up. Whatfreaks is a place where people who have more offensive comedy bits can submit their material. If such material is sent to the parody archive on Amiright, it will be deleted by the editors before it is even public. Amiright has policies on explicit sexual content and harsh profanity, and they recommend Whatfreaks for people who write comedy bits of such an "adult" nature.
