Bettws Cedewain

From Encyc
St Beuno's Church

Bettws Cedewain (also known under various spelling variations) is a village and former parish on the banks of the Afon Bechan to the north of Newtown, in Powys, Wales. It was in the historic county of Montgomeryshire.[1]

The name comes from Middle English "bedhus" meaning "prayer house" and the medieval cantref of Cedewain. A church was founded in the village by St Beuno in the 6th century. There was also a wooden motte and bailey castle at some point.[2]
