Caersws

Caersws is a village in Powys, Wales. Historically it was part of Montgomeryshire.
The village itself has a population of about 800. The community also includes Clatter, Pontdolgoch and Llanwnnog, and has a population of almost 1,600. Historically this was Llanwnnog parish,[1] but it has since taken the name of its largest settlement (Caersws).
The name derives from Welsh, "caer" means fort, referring to the Roman settlement there. But "sws" is of unknown meaning, perhaps related to a Roman road named Sarn Swsan or Sarn Swsog which ended at Caersws. Traditionally it is from a queen named Swys Wen, but this may not be accurate.[2]
Caersws has also had 1 Baptist chapel, 2 Methodist chapels, and one "other".[1]
In football the local team is Caersws FC, which played at the top level of the Welsh pyramid from 1992 to 2010.[3]
