Commote

From Encyc
Map of the commotes of Wales

A commote was a division of land in medieval Wales. Commotes were smaller than cantrefs. Generally 2 or 3 commotes would make up a cantref. The Welsh word for a commote is "cwmwd".

Some commotes still appear in place names today, such as Llanfihangel y Creuddyn (Creuddyn was a commote).
