Crickadarn

Crickadarn is a small village in Powys, Wales, about 10km south of Builth Wells. Historically it was a parish in Brecknockshire. In Welsh it is spelt Crucadarn, historically it had also been called Cerrigcadarn.
The name of the village suggests a "strong mount", which may be derived from its location at a high bank overlooking the Cletwr Brook.[1]
The parish also included part of the larger village of Erwood.[2] St Mary's Church probably dates to the 13th/14th century. To the south-west of the church is a small oval earthwork which could perhaps date to late prehistoric times.[3]
Hebron Chapel is near the church.[4] Other buildings in the village include one at Llawr-llan farm dating to the 17th century, and the former Firtree Inn.[3]
The civil parish became a community in 1974. Since 1986 it has been part of Erwood community.[5]
