Diamonds

From Encyc

A diamond is a crystal of pure Carbon. For most of human history diamonds were the hardest known substances.

Natural diamonds crystalize through tectonic forces, and are typically extracted from long deep circular intrusions, where super hot liquid or gas tried to burst through to the surface.

Optically pure diamond crystals are valued for making jewelry. Lower quality diamonds are used for industrial purposes, like rock cutting saws.
