English Channel

The English Channel is a narrow body of water that connects the North Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. It separates England from France. The channel is narrowest near Dover (the Straits of Dover), where there are white chalky cliffs, and the French channel ports including Calais, Dieppe and Dunkirk.

The French name for the Channel is La Manche ("the sleeve").
