Germanic is a language spoken by Germanic tribes in northern Europe. It is considered the precursor to modern a variety of modern European languages. The Norse languages, Danish, Swedish, Icelandic Faroese and Norwegian are modern languages that derive from Germanic speakers from Northern Europe. Other modern languages that derive from Germanic include: English, Dutch, Flemish, Switzerdeutsch, German, and Frisian.
