Kim Pyong Il is a member of North Korea's Kim family.[1] His father Kim Il-sung, was North Korea's first leader.[2] His elder brother, Kim Jong-il, North Korea's second leader. He is one of the uncles to Kim Jong-un, North Korea's third leader, Kim Jong-Un.
According to Asia Times, both Jong-il and Pyong-il, felt driven to succeed their father, had "...a fire in their belly."[2]

Kim Jong Il won out and Kim Pyong Il was exiled to a long career of filling ambassadorial posts in central Europe. In Novermber at age 65 he retired and returned to Pyongyang. Perhaps he’s available – conceivably even chafing at the bit like another old prince, Charles of the UK? – to receive the crown.
