Introduction[edit]
Spanish is a Romance language spoken in Spain, South America, Central America, the United States, Equatorial Guinea and some places in Asia. For English speakers, Spanish is an easy language to learn because the pronunciation is simple, and there are no complex grammatical structures. Moreover, it is spoken by nearly 500 million people. Indeed, it is the second most spoken language after Chinese Mandarin. English is the third most spoken language. Spanish will open your mind, and you will find great culture.
The Alphabet. El Alfabeto[edit]
Unlike English, Spanish letters are always pronounced the same way. English has five different sounds for the letter "A", while spanish has only one. Let's explore those sounds. A a - It is always pronounced like the A in father- Example, Agua- Water B b - Same pronunciation as English B- Example- Bote- boat Cc- When it is proceeded by I and E, it sounds like an S. When It is proceeded by A, O or U, it sounds like a K. Just like in English. Example- Casa- House. Cielo- Sky D d- Example- Dinero- Money E e- always Like in the first E in Example. Example- Elefante- Elefant F F- Example- Fuego- Fire G g- Like G if proceeded by A, O, U. Like English H if proceeded by E or I. Gente- People. Grande- Big H h- Always Mute. No sound- Hormiga-Ant I i- Like EE in Sheet or Eel. Inglés- English J j- Like English H- Jabón- Soap
