South America is a continent in the Western Hemisphere, mainly south of the equator.
The most spoken language is Spanish, with 9 countries and 194 million people speaking it. It is followed closely by Portuguese, spoken in Brazil by 191 million people. English is spoken in Guyana, Dutch in Suriname and French in French Guiana.
