Llananno

From Encyc

Llananno is a hamlet and former parish in Powys, Wales. It was in the north of the historic county of Radnorshire. The parish also included the hamlet of David's Well.[1]

In Llananno is St Anno's Church. It is first recorded in 1304, likely as a chapel of ease rather than a parish church itself.[2] Not much is known about St Anno, but this is also the same saint that the church at Newborough on Anglesey was dedicated to. Newborough was also known by the name Llananno in ancient times.[3] Llananno has also been said to be named after St Wonno, compare Llanwonno in Glamorgan.[4]

Llananno is also the location of a bridge crossing the River Ithon.[5]

The hamlet of David's Well (Ffynnon Ddewi in Welsh) is named for its "much frequented and highly esteemed well". Nearby is the Llaithddu Brook.[6]
