Llanbabo

From Encyc
St Pabo's Church

Llanbabo is a small village and former parish in Anglesey, north-west Wales. It is near Llyn Alaw. Today it is in the community of Tref Alaw.

The church at Llanbabo is dedicated to St Pabo.[1] It is a medieval church, some parts were rebuilt in the 14th century and there was some restoration in the 20th century, but most parts remaining today date back all the way to the 12th century.[2] Nearby is Pabo's Well.[3]

St Pabo is likely to be Pabo Post Prydain, a king from the north of post-Roman Britain, who settled in Anglesey after 460 AD. Pabo is said to be buried at Llanbabo Church.

Llanbabo was also the original name of a village in Gwynedd in mainland Wales, now known as Deiniolen. This is because settlers arrived there from Llanbabo when Deiniolen and Clwt-y-Bont were established in the 1820s.
