Llanfaredd

From Encyc
St Mary's Church

Llanfaredd was a parish about 2 miles east of Builth Wells, in central Powys, Wales. The settlement includes only the church and a farm. Historically it was part of Radnorshire.

The parish church is currently dedicated to St Mary. In the past it may have been dedicated to an unknown saint named "Maredd" or "Mareth", and changed to Mary due to the similarity in the names. The church dates back to medieval times.[1]

The parish's population slowly decreased over time, from 194 in 1801 to 104 in 1971.[2] After a restructure in local government it became a community in 1974, and it was abolished in 1983.[3] Today it is part of Llanelwedd community.
