Llanrhydd

From Encyc
St Meugan's Church

Llanrhydd or Llanrhudd was a parish east of Ruthin, in Denbighshire, Wales.

St Meugan's Church at Llanrhydd was originally the parish church of Ruthin, dating to the 6th century. St Peter's Church was built in 1310 as the new parish church of Ruthin, and Llanrhydd was made a separate parish.

The place was also known as Llanfeugan in the past, after St Meugan's Church ("llan" = church/parish). The current name is believed to originate from "rhudd" meaning red, referring to the colour of the building stone.[1]

The parish included part of the town of the Ruthin, as well as rural areas to the east.[2]

Today the parish is split between the two communities of Ruthin and Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd.
