Maggie Lieu (born 1990) is a British astrophysicist.[3][4]

Lieu spent a year at the University of Los Angeles while working on a masters in Astronomy Space Science and astrophysics at the University of Kent.[5]

In 2015, when she was a 24 year old PhD student, she was named as a candidate for the Mars One Project.[6][7] The Express reported Lieu was interested in giving birth to the first baby born on Planet Mars.[8] Lieu withdrew from consideration to join the Mars project later in 2015.[9]

After completing her PhD at University of Birmingham Lieu spent three years in Spain working as a Research Fellow for the European Space Agency.[10] Subsequently Lieu was hired as a Research Fellow by the University of Nottingham.[11]

Lieu applies "machine learning", a branch of Artificial intelligence, to studying the larger structure of our universe.[12]

Lieu also produces YouTube videos.[3] Her "SpaceMog" channel has 203 videos, as of January 2024.[10]

When the medium sized cruise ship Ambition was chartered to give science tourists a good view of the Aurora Borealis, in 2025, organizers arranged a panel of experts to offer lectures on related topics.[13] Lieu was one of the visiting scientists on the cruise.
