Meuse River
The Meuse River is a river in northern France and Belgium. It is militarily quite significant because it represents the last major obstacle for the Germans as they break out of the Ardennes Forest to open ground beyond. During the Fall of France, the Allies failed to defend the Meuse in sufficient strength. During the Battle of the Bulge, the Germans were slowed enough that a final stand on the Meuse did not have to be made.
