Mochdre, Powys

From Encyc
All Saints' Church

Mochdre is a village about 5km south-west of Newtown in Powys, Wales. It was historically part of Montgomeryshire.

The name means "town of the pigs", thought to relate to a legend in the Four Branches of the Mabinogi.

The former parish of Mochdre also included the larger village of Stepaside.[1] It absorbed Penstrowed in 1987,[2] forming the community of Mochdre with Penstrowed.

All Saints' Church is believed to date to medieval times, and it was largely rebuilt in 1867. There are also several houses dating to the 19th century.[3]

South-east of the village is Lake Mochdre, a former reservoir, now used for fishing.
