Optical

From Encyc

Optical is an English DJ and music producer, who focuses on drum and bass music.

He is mainly known for his work with Ed Rush, with whom he founded the Virus Recordings label. His music helped shape a new sound for the drum and bass genre, called neurofunk, influenced by ambient sci-fi and techno music. His first single for Metalheadz, To Shape the Future/Raging Calm (1997) and the album Wormhole he produced with Ed Rush (1998) are often cited as being the first productions with a clear sound detached from the earlier jungle and drum and bass style. The two producers made two more albums together, The Creeps (2000) and The Original Doctor Shade (2003), Chameleon (2006) and also made other singles and many remixes.

Additionally to Ed Rush, Optical has also cooperated with other artists, such as his brother Matrix, Dom & Roland, Fierce, and Trace.
