PediaPress

From Encyc

PediaPress is a company that prints books made from wiki content. PediaPress was founded in 2007, and they are based out of Germany, though their main website is written in English.

How PediaPress works[edit]

For MediaWiki, there is an extension called the Collection Extension. This extension is installed on Wikipedia and Wikibooks, and possibly some other independent wikis. The Collection Extension creates a special page in the wiki, named Special:Book. When the book creator is activated via the Special:Book page, users can go from article to article within that one wiki, adding articles to the book. You can then go to your book settings, alphabetize if you want, or organize the articles into chapters. You can then do one of three things; create a PDF file out of it, create an ODF file, or order your book as print through PediaPress. People have created their own custom wiki books through PediaPress; others have added their book to the PediaPress Catalog. What makes this catalog different than any other online bookstore is that the collection of articles is printed from scratch. So a book bought in 2012 will have newer information than the same title purchased in 2011.
