Port Eynon

From Encyc

Port Eynon is a village on the southern coast of the Gower Peninsula, part of Swansea, Wales. It has a community council. In 2011 the community had a population of 597.

The name is also spelt as Port Einon, closer to its Welsh name Porth Einon. Ordnance Survey maps hyphenate it as Port-Eynon.

Port Eynon was historically a parish, also including the nearby village of Overton.[1] In 1974 it became a community, and in 1983 it absorbed Llanddewi and Knelston.[2] Llanddewi also included the village of Scurlage.

St Cattwg's Church was founded in the 6th century, though the current building dates to the 12th century. Further alterations occurred in 1861.[3]

The village also has a beach on Port Eynon Bay, which extends into the neighbouring village of Horton.
