Shwt

From Encyc
Glannant Row

Shwt is a tiny village about 5 miles north of Bridgend, Wales.

The name comes from "chute", spelt differently to fit the Welsh language. It refers to a water chute, used to scour and wash coal.[1] (this was a coal mining area in the past)

It was historically in the parish of Bettws.[2] Today it is part of the Garw Valley community.

Shwt Bridge, just south of the village, crosses the Maesteg Line railway.
