Tactical Cat Ears

The term Tactical Cat Ears initially referred to cosmetic fabric ears gamers and cosplayers attached to the helmets they wore, while playing games. Then, actual combatants in Ukraine started to customize their helmets with ears. The ears were often attached using Velcro.
In October 2025, in reporting on plans from Mark Zuckerberg and Palmer Luckey, to mount gear to soldiers' helmets, to increase their situational awareness, Gizmodo reported the pair's plans included computer-aided listening devices, that looked like Tactical Cat Ears, initially created as a fashion accessory.[1] They wrote "we live in a time where it’s entirely impossible to know if that is the most efficient design for the effort or if it’s just another CEO with the sense of humor of a 13-year-old..."
Gizmodo reports the ears were first worn, by gamers, in the early 2010s.[1]

The helmet module, notably, gives soldiers tactical cat ears. Frankly, we live in a time where it’s entirely impossible to know if that is the most efficient design for the effort or if it’s just another CEO with the sense of humor of a 13-year-old doing a multi-million dollar meme, a la Elon Musk running a government project named after a memecoin or making Tesla models spell out the word “SEXY.”
