The Duellists
Appearance

The Duellists is a movie from the 1970s starring Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine. It is based on a short story by Joseph Conrad. It takes place during the Napoleonic era in France.
The actors trained heavily for their roles and the swordfighting has been acclaimed as some of the most realistic ever caught on film.
The plot revolves around two French officers who duel each other several times over the years over a petty, insignificant quarrel that is ultimately meaningless. Feraud, played by Keitel, seems to relish the conflict, fuelled by revenge addiction. D'Hubert, played by Carradine, dreads the encounters but his sense of honor will not allow him to back down.
The film was directed by Ridley Scott.
