Hi[edit]
Welcome to Encyc! Dysklyver (talk) 04:44, 3 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Dysklyver Hello there. Nice to meet you. I'm The Vixen. My real name is Ellie Smith. You can call me either Ellie or El. I am an administrator on Wikipedia. I seem really interested in this site and I would like to help out here. By the way, I have put the article up for deletion, because there seems to be no sandbox. It was meant to be a test page. If you have the power to delete the page for me, I'll be certainly happy. Thanks! I can't wait to start working with you. Cheers!;) The Vixen (talk) 04:48, 3 August 2018 (CDT)
- Welcome to Encyc. I'm Alex (or Alexander, whatever works for you). Page deleted as requested. The sandbox is located at Encyc:Sandbox. RE: Blanking one's user page: There's no explicit rule against this. Just saying. ;) I've done it a few times in my time but I can see where you're coming from. But please, let's not chase after people for this. Alexander (talk) 10:11, 3 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander Hi, Alex. Thanks for deleting the page. Usually when you do something like this it comes with this Done. Just giving you an idea, that's all. There is a page that I created. It's Writer. Feel free to add your knowledge; as it's a stub. The Vixen (talk) 05:48, 4 August 2018 (CDT)
- You're welcome. I can't say I particularly like being told that I should do things a certain way, just because Wikipedia does it that way/you're used to things being done that way. I realize you intended this as a suggestion but it came across kinda pushy. We do things our own way here and we like to distance ourselves from Wikipedia. (I would rather a more personal approach with a few words, than a fancy template). That said, my advice is that if you want to be here, you have to allow a bit of flexibility for individual preference. We have a lot less rules than Wikipedia (in fact, we try to avoid rules at all) and there's no set way of doing anything. You have to realize that. (ie. "Assume good faith" doesn't even exist as a rule, although it's generally assumed that people aren't horrible. We tend to avoid using Wikipedian terms) Also, consider that many of us are not exactly on friendly terms with Wikipedia or vice-versa. So if you try to tell people to do things the way Wikipedia does, you're going to have a bad time, and not everyone's going to be as nice as I am. We're a friendly bunch here, really. But we're a lot more informal about the way things are done. Some may say it's like the wild west, but not having s bunch of rules has worked for us so far.) Welcome[edit]
Welcome to Encyc! Auggie (talk) 10:10, 6 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Auggie Cheers! You're so kind. I'd like to change my username, but how? The Vixen (talk) 09:06, 7 August 2018 (CDT)
I'm announcing to everyone that I am transgender. I have been thinking that I am transgender since December 2015. The Vixen (talk) 05:36, 8 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Auggie I'm announcing to everyone that I am transgender. I have been thinking that I am transgender since December 2015. I think I'd like my name to be User talk:The Vixen. The Vixen is what I'd like to change my username to please! Is being transgender okay on Encyc? I hope that you are not disappointed or starting to dislike me for just being myself and identifying my myself as a woman. The Vixen (talk) 05:39, 8 August 2018 (CDT)
- If I may offer my opinion - and I'm sure I'm not the only one - it doesn't matter in the slightest. :) Alexander (talk) 20:24, 8 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander Thank you for changing my user name. Do you like my colour signature? It's in magenta. Check the signature! The Vixen (talk) 14:27, 10 August 2018 (CDT)
- I didn't do that, so I don't deserve the credit. You should go thank Auggie instead. Nice signature. Alexander (talk) 11:23, 10 August 2018 (CDT)
BLP[edit]
I've deleted all mention of the BLP policy in your edits, as (again), that is a Wikipedia policy and not one of ours. Our policy is different - there should be no biographies of living persons at all. Alexander (talk) 11:19, 10 August 2018 (CDT)
- That means 2 Chainz needs to be deleted, as he's a living person. This would be against our policies of no biographies of living persons. Alexander (talk) 20:04, 13 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander Too be honest, there are other articles that have been created, not by me that are on there. Encyc is an encyclopedia of everything, so famous people count. I don't think that famous articles of people need to be deleted. People will then use Encyc more than Wikipedia and that's good for us because then Wikipedia will then shut down and we will be the No.1 best Wiki site. The Vixen (talk) 14:45, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- Could you please pick one place to reply to? You have replied on my talk page so my reply is there. I'm not going to reply on both pages. Thanks. Alexander (talk) 09:00, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- It is crystal clear in the policy, "Anyone dead less than that time, or who is alive, should not have a biography on Encyc". Famous or not. You can take it up with Auggie if you disagree. As much as you want to argue it with me, I only enforce the rules, I'm not in any position to change them. Maybe you don't understand that I'm only an admin. I can't change the rules even if I wanted to. That rule is there for a reason. We can argue back and forth the reasons for it, but that's not going to change that it exists. Alexander (talk) 09:03, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander Arguement has been discussed and the page is staying. You can create any article as long as it is true and not false. Encyc is an encyclopedia about anything, so the case is officially closed! The Vixen (talk) 15:14, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- No. You are in no position to "officially" do anything. I can. Auggie is the final arbiter of what stays and goes. Not you. At this point, I'm just going to delete the damn page because we've been arguing back and forth all day. You are not special. I am not going to bend the rules just for you and it's insulting to be asked that. The rules are there for a reason. Ask Auggie the reasoning, I didn't make that rule. My job is to enforce them. I am deleting that page because this argument has gone on for long enough. It's aggravating me, pissing me off, you are still uncivil with me even after I said "this is driving me to resign" and "leave me alone for the rest of the day". I'm done with this. This ends now. "Officially". There's a right way and a wrong way to debate the rules. You've chosen the wrong way. Alexander (talk) 09:34, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander Thanks for deleting User talk:Widr. Could u also delete the page User:Widr too? I don't really wanna argue about famous people! A page is just a page. How can u become an admin on Encyc. Could u make me an admin, please so that I can delete and protect too? The Vixen (talk) 15:19, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- How many times do I have to tell you that I an an ADMIN - only an admin - not a bureaucrat or in any position to make anyone an admin - and that is all I'd ever want to be? I've told you several times today and it just isn't sinking in. I do not have any power to do this, and if today's any indication of future events, I would be against the idea. Alexander (talk) 09:36, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
How to contact you Vixen? drlesgo at aol dot com. Forgot the tildes. Drlesmgolden (talk) 09:24, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Drlesmgolden It's okay and thanks! Are u an admin? Could you please delete and block the user User:Widr. I asked User:Alexander to delete the talk page but he forgot to delete the user page. Could u delete that page and block them too, thanks! Also, I live in England, so that if the tildes of my signature says a different time is because I live in England. The Vixen (talk) 15:28, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
I'm not an admin, but have worked with Auggie and made many contributions for years. Drlesmgolden (talk) 09:31, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- No, he's not an admin. No you didn't ask me to do it and I don't appreciate being blamed for something you didn't ask me to do. Thirdly, this is the second time today you've thrown me under the bus. "Alex, could you do this and this and this?" "Certainly." None of that happened. I am not a mindreader.
- Honestly, I'm fed up with this, I'm stressed and you are driving me to resign. Alexander (talk) 09:32, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander Oh, sorry! Is there anything that I can do to help u? The Vixen (talk) 15:35, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- I don't know how to say this nicely. Let me try. Maybe leaving me alone for the rest of the day? Not bringing my name up if you can't do it in some sort of constructive way? That'd be a start. And for future reference, if you want me to do something, ask. Not expect me to do it without asking. k? K. Alexander (talk) 09:38, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander I'm so sorry! Please forgive me! Can u please delete the User:Widr page and block it for me? Can u miraculously make me an admin? The Vixen (talk) 15:41, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- Yes. We don't block usernames for that reason. i have an old username too, that's not a reason to block it. Just don't use it. Seriously, stop asking about being an admin, it's not funny. It's more like annoying. Firstly, it doesn't help your case that you're begging and pleading to be an admin. Secondly, there is a process on Encyc:Administrators (which admittedly, I keep forgetting). You may go and nominate yourself but I'd wait a while before doing so. Thirdly, you can't just go from nothing to an admin in a matter of days. Establish yourself as an editor first. Show you can be trusted. Willingness to work with other admins is also a thing, which, by the way you've been behaving with me, is not helping you here. You were warned to stop. You were told "I can't do anything about it". You persisted and persisted, stressing me out and pissing me off and I have TRIED to stay civil. And now you're condescending and telling me to calm down (which I find offensive) when you were the one who's aggravating me. Leave me alone. Alexander (talk) 09:47, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander Calm down! Please just delete User:Widr page. You r an admin on here, not me. Get yourself a cup of tea! The Vixen (talk) 15:52, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- I don't appreciate the condescending tone. You want people to be civil on your talk page, then maybe YOU should do so first. I did it already. Check the log. Alexander (talk) 09:55, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
@User talk:Alexander Okay. Are u relaxed now? The Vixen (talk) 15:57, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- I said i didn't appreciate the condescending tone. I didn't say "yes please keep doing it". I didn't want to do this but you have been blocked for the rest of the day. I asked you to stop. I asked you to leave me alone for the rest of the day. Obviously, that's not working so take a breather. I didn't want to do this but it seems I have no choice. I am at my wit's end. I don't appreciate you going to anyone and everyone and saying "Can you ask Alexander to do this?" and dragging my name all over the place, throwing me under the bus, blaming me because you don't like a rule and generally starting unnecessary drama and you're telling me to calm down?!. Ask me once to do something once and I will do it in my own time, when it is convenient for me to do so. Many Wikipedia admins would not have put up with this behaviour and would have blocked you long before I did. You should know that. So why do it here? Alexander (talk) 10:03, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
Les has been here for years and written many very good articles. His biography is actually one of the few exceptions to the BLP policy, and is our most popular article by far (after the Main Page). see Special:PopularPages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Auggie (talk • contribs) 10:37, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
Vixen, can you contact me directly? drlesgo at aol dot com. Thanks. I hope whatever is going on with you and Alexander is quickly and amicably resolved. Encyc can use both of your talents!! Drlesmgolden (talk) 16:19, 14 August 2018 (CDT)
- It'll be fine. Tomorrow, we'll forget any of this ever happened. It's not like it's the worst crisis that's ever happened around here. It's been ages since the last one so I think we were due one. ;) Alexander (talk)
@User talk:Alexander. I'm sorry for being a sore idiot and for keeping on harassing you. I understand if you only have so much patience. I won't do it again! I have learned my lesson! x The Vixen (talk) 13:00, 16 August 2018 (CDT)
Good for both of you. Vixen, can you contact me directly. drlesgo at aol dot com. Drlesmgolden (talk) 08:10, 16 August 2018 (CDT)
Apology accepted. Though I must ask you to stop violating the biography policy. :) Gentle reminder: No pages of people who are alive except for a few exceptions. Alexander (talk) 09:50, 16 August 2018 (CDT)
New wiki?[edit]
I saw the edit that you wrote, and then reverted so I don't know if it's still a thing or if you're intentionally hiding it. ;)
You do realize Wikipedia has several server farms in various places, just to satisfy the traffic they get? So it would be quite an expensive proposition to be "better than Wikipedia". Just saying, I don't think you've totally thought this through. (also see: What are the costs of Wikipedia for one day?) The cost of their hosting runs into the millions of dollars per year.
For several reasons (one being that I'm a busy college student, two - I like being here just fine), I will remain here. One wiki is my limit. I don't have the time. Thanks just the same. Alexander (talk) 07:42, 24 August 2018 (CDT)
- The folks at Miraheze are good and Wikis can be hosted there just fine, but note that they have limited resources to cope with a very popular wiki and are mainly funded by the WMF itself anyway. There are many thousands of small wikis, none of which can complete with Wikipedia itself, but all of which can potentially have a niche value. For example I have a wiki, it costs ~$30 a month but rarely gets more than 5000 visitors a month, almost all the edits nowadays are by my bots, and it is entirely a hobby and not a serious endeavor to "oust Wikipedia". To my knowledge the only wiki currently trying to do that is the blockchain one. Dysklyver (talk) 12:33, 28 August 2018 (CDT)
Happy new year, 2019![edit]
- @User talk:Auggie Hey, glad to see you again! I have become better and I have improved my skills since. By the way, it is great to see you! Happy 2019 to you! The Vixen (talk) 08:41, 17 February 2019 (CST)
Speedy deletion?[edit]
C'mon. This is not Wikipedia. Alexander (talk) 18:35, 4 May 2019 (CDT)
Notability[edit]
Again, this is not Wikipedia. Please review Encyc:Notability.
- "As long as you are respectful of people's time and possess a tiny bit of common sense, you should be able to write about your favorite hobby here without any interference from management."
Whether something is notable or not is not a rule, like on Wikipedia. I don't know how many times I have to say this, but we don't run things the way they do nor do we have the same rules. People coming here and thinking the rules are the same, this is absolutely not the case. We aren't affiliated with Wikipedia, period. Alexander (talk) 19:51, 8 May 2019 (CDT)
