Ystradgynlais

From Encyc

Ystradgynlais is a town and former parish in the north of the Swansea Valley, in the county of Powys, Wales. It was in the historic county of Brecknockshire.[1] It has a population of around 10,585 as of 2021.[2]

Ystradgynlais was a mining town and is best known for the Ynyscedwyn Ironworks in Glanrhyd.[3]

St Cynog's Church in Ystradgynlais was built in 1861, replacing a previous church of the same name. The earlier church is locally said to have been built by the Normans. Despite the buildings in the town all dating back to the 19th or 20th centuries, it is still likely that the settlement at Ystradgynlais has medieval origins.[4]
