Beguildy
Beguildy, or Bugeildy in Welsh, is a village and former parish in Powys, Wales. It was in the far north of the historic county of Radnorshire, next to the border with Shropshire. The parish also included the villages of Felindre, Crug-y-byddar, Dutlas and Lloyney.[1] Today the community also includes Knucklas and Heyope. In 2011 the community had a population of 723.
The name "Bugeildy" comes from the Welsh words "bugail" and "ty" and means "shepherd's house". This name was later anglicised into the English name "Beguildy".[2]
The church in Beguildy is dedicated to St Michael and All Angels. It dates back to the 15th century, with restorations in 1885 and 1896.[2] The village is also the location of Beguildy Castle, which was a motte and bailey castle built by the Normans. Today its motte and earthworks remain well-preserved, standing 20 feet high above the surrounding land.[3]
