Civil parish
Civil parishes are the lowest level of local government in England. As of September 2023, there are 10,464 civil parishes.
Civil parishes mostly cover rural areas. The larger cities are mostly "unparished".
Until 1974 there were also civil parishes in Wales. These are now known as communities.
