Craven Arms

From Encyc

Craven Arms is a town in Shropshire, England, near the border with Wales. It had a population of 2,289 in 2011.

It grew in the 19th century after its railway station was built. Previously there were two villages: Newton/Newtown in the south-east, and Newington/New Inn in the north. The town is named for the Craven Arms Hotel, which is named for the Earls of Craven who owned the nearby Stokesay Castle. The station still exists today, at the junction of the Welsh Marches Line with the Heart of Wales Line.

The Craven Arms civil parish was formed in 1987 from the earlier civil parishes of Stokesay and Halford.
