Dolyhir

From Encyc
Former railway station

Dolyhir is a small village just south of Old Radnor in Powys, Wales. It is about a mile from the border with Herefordshire in England.

The name comes from Welsh dol-y-hir meaning "long meadow".[1]

The village had a quarry. A chapel-like building made of corrugated iron was used as a reading room for quarry workers, and as a changing room for local soccer teams such as Kington Town. Dolyhir also had its own team, playing just over the border in the North Herefordshire League for a time in the 1970s.[2]

Next to the quarry was the railway station, which was on the Kington and Eardisley Railway, but it closed in 1951.
