Gladestry

Gladestry is a village in Powys, Wales. It is next to the border with England, and was in the historic county of Radnorshire.
The name "Gladestry" appears to mean "Claud's tree". In Welsh the village is called Llanfair Llythynwg, referring to St Mary's church in Llythynwg, a medieval district. St Mary's Church in Gladestry dates back to the 13th century.[1]
The current Gladestry community also includes Colva, Michaelchurch-on-Arrow, and Newchurch.[2] These were all originally separate parishes. In 2021, the community had a population of 440.
In football the village team was the Vale of Arrow, named for the River Arrow that flows through the area. The team had success locally for a number of years, but as with most small village teams they couldn't survive for too long, and struggled before folding in the 2000s.
