Howey and Crossway

From Encyc
Houses on the A483 road in Howey

Howey and Crossway are two villages to the south of Llandrindod Wells, in Powys, Wales. They are in the community of Disserth and Trecoed, and formerly the historic county of Radnorshire. Howey is also spelt as Hafwy, Hawy, or Howi in Welsh.

Howey is located on the Howey Brook about 1.5 miles south of Llandrindod Wells, and Crossway is a smaller village at a crossroads about a third of a mile further south. Little currently separates the two villages today. Just south of Crossway is Sunny Haven Park Homes.

Howey was formerly part of the civil parish (and later community) of Llandrindod Rural. In 1971 the parish had a population of 252.[1] Crossway was presumably also part of the parish. On 1 April 1983 the community was abolished, and made part of Disserth and Trecoed as it is today.[2]

Crossway first appears on maps some time around the 20th century, whereas Howey appears much earlier.[3]
