Llandeilo'r Fan

Llandeilo'r Fan is a small village in Powys, Wales. Historically it was a parish in Brecknockshire. It is located at the south-western edge of Mynydd Epynt, on the Nant Mawen at the confluence with the Nant Eithrim.[1]
The name refers to saint Teilo, and "fan" is apparently a corruption of the Mawen brook. In the Llandaff charters it was known as Lann Guruaet, an older place name, likely from an otherwise unknown personal name Gurmaet.[1]
The village was likely founded in medieval times. The church was mostly rebuilt in 1873, and it was possibly in a very poor state before then. It still preserves a 14th-century font, and other late medieval woodwork.[1] Despite the village's small size it also has a village hall.
The parish covered a vast area of sparsely populated upland.[2] Until the mid-19th century it had a population around 500 - since then it fell dramatically and by 1971 it was only 59.[3] The community was abolished in 1986.[4] Now it is part of Maescar.
There was also a chapel at Abercyrnog in the parish. It was built in 1857 and named Babell. It closed in 1940. There are still gravestones there, but the chapel itself hasn't survived.
