Llandrillo

Llandrillo is a village in Denbighshire, Wales, about 5 miles south-west of Corwen. Historically it was a parish in Merionethshire.

As it was in the commote of Edeirnion, it is sometimes given the name Llandrillo yn Edeirnion, distinguishing it from the larger Llandrillo yn Rhos (Rhos-on-Sea).

The parish included the village of Llandrillo and some farms. A large part of the parish was uninhabited land in the Berwyn Mountains. These boundaries are effectively identical to the modern community, which recorded a population of 580 at the 2011 census.

St Trillo's Church was founded in the early medieval period and it is recorded as early as the 13th century. Nothing is known of this early structure as it was rebuilt in 1776 and again in 1875.

In 2010 the village's primary school, Ysgol Llandrillo, was suggested to be closed. This was opposed by locals, whose protests helped to postpone its scheduled closure in 2011. It was closed a year later in 2012. The remaining pupils were transferred to Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy in Cynwyd, 3 miles away. In 2019 there were calls to re-open Ysgol Llandrillo.
