Montgomery (Trefaldwyn in Welsh) is a town in central Wales, about a mile west of the border with England. Historically it was the county town of Montgomeryshire, which is now part of Powys.

A motte and bailey castle was built just north-west of the town in 1070, at a site now known as Hen Domen ("old mound"). In 1223 building started for a stone castle, at the location of the current town. Some ruins of Montgomery Castle still remain today.

The parish church, dedicated to St Nicholas, was founded in 1227.

As of 2011 the community of Montgomery had a population of 1,295. It also includes the small villages of Caerhowel and Hendomen.
