Queen Victoria

From Encyc
Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria reigned as Queen of the United Kingdom, and Empress of the British Empire for 64 years.

Family legacy

[edit | edit source]

Victoria bore 11 children, who, in turn, bore 42 grandchildren. Her descendants married into royal families of Germany, Denmark, Hesse, Russia, Schleswig-Holstein, Waldeck and Pyrmont, Battenberg, Spain, Greece, Romania, Sweden and Norway. European royal families to marry other royals made those individuals technically in-bred, and Victoria's genome contained several dangerous recessive diseases.

Cultural legacy

Victoria was seen as an example of behavior.

While modern commentators routinely characterize Victoria, and those who admired her, as socially and sexually conservative.
