The River Ystwyth, near Trawsgoed

The River Ystwyth (Afon Ystwyth in Welsh) is a river in Ceredigion, Wales.

It rises on the western slopes of Plynlimon and flows west into Cardigan Bay. Along the way it forms a sparsely populated valley, including the villages of Cwmystwyth, Pontrhydygroes, Ysbyty Ystwyth, Llanafan, Trawsgoed, Abermagwr, Llanilar and Abermad, before joining the sea at the town of Aberystwyth.

The river has above average levels of lead, zinc and silver due to mining in the area. Cwmystwyth was a very important mining area in the past.
