Cwmystwyth

From Encyc
Ty-llwyd, Cwmystwyth

Cwmystwyth is a village in Ceredigion, Wales. The name refers to the valley (cwm) of the River Ystwyth.

In the past it was in the chapelry of Eglwys Newydd in Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn parish.[1] Today it is in the community of Pontarfynach.

There had been mining at Cwmystwyth since Roman times, and it was maybe the most important mining site in central Wales. The mines were abandoned in 1950.[2]

A farm near Cwmystwyth has been calculated to be at the exact centre of Wales.[3]
