Map of Tuvalu

Tuvalu is an island country in Oceania. It makes up part of Polynesia. In 2024 it had a population of 9,646.

The capital of Tuvalu is the atoll of Funafuti. Tuvalu's national languages are English and Tuvaluan.

Tuvalu gained independence from the United Kingdom on 1 October 1978. Until 1 January 1976 it was part of the same colony as nearby Kiribati. Since 5 September 2000 Tuvalu has been a member of the United Nations.

Tuvalu is a very flat and low-lying country, its highest point is only 15 feet above sea level. This means Tuvalu is under a big threat of destruction due to rising sea levels from climate change.
