USS Charlotte

From Encyc
USS Charlotte and sister ships.

The USS Charlotte is a Los Angeles class attack submarine, operated by the United States Navy.[1] The main task of attack submarines, like the Charlotte, was to track and follow the ballistic missile submarines operated by rival nations. If war broke out, they would try to sink the rival nation's ballistic missile submarines before they could fire their nuclear weapons.

In March 2026 the Charlotte sank the IRIS Dena, with a single Mark 48 torpedo.[1] She was the first US submarine to sink a warship since World War 2.

IRIS Dena was a modern Moudge class frigate of the Iranian navy - but in March 2026 she was hunted down and destroyed at sea by the American submarine USS Charlotte. In the broader context of the developing conflict it can be hard to understand just what this means - and what the current state of Iran's navy actually is. Today we'll examine Dena and her fleetmate, what they're actually capable of and what their loss means for a nation that is being attacked relentlessly by a much more powerful force.
